Beatrice Mellinger's Album: Yoles Rondes

DESCRIPTION : Caribbean Civilization preceded by thousands of years the arrival of the Europeans, which is too often established as its starting point with Christopher Columbus’s discovery in 1492, and it is therefore essential to recognize our Amerindian origins. The Yoles Rondes Series is a tribute to our Ancestors who found in the gum tree drawn from the tropical forest, the ideal trunk from which emerged after excavation, the light boat named after the same tree (Le Gommier). Le Gommier boat was used until the 40’ and then replaced by the Yole boat, with the growing scarcity of gum trees. Nowadays, the “Tour des Yoles” Race is a uniquely cultural event and an amazing spectacle of seamanship, bright colors, and Martinique Island pride.
