Bela’s artwork “y orange, voyelles series 1” has been selected as part of the “ Tree of Life”, a six-story piece of permanent public art. This project is a collaboration between Art at Large Inc, Visarts, Artwalk and the Shelter Group Brightview (Rockville MD).
The pieces that were submitted are part of the series “Voyelles”, inspired by Rimbaud’s poem in which each vowel is assigned a color. For each letter Bela created one painting, adding her interpretation of the poem, playing with words, letters and colors. Abstract calligraphy was introduced as a tribute to poetry and to depict the rhythm of the writing, while white lines are suggesting the structure of the poem.
The vowels become objects with which you can have fun and carry with them their own realities, sense or color; they have symbolic value. For example, the vowel “i rouge” is a reference to love; “u vert” means the serenity and peace, while “e blanc” is pride, purity, lightness and “o blue” the religious evocation of heaven.
For the “Tree of Life” project, the works of the selected artists will be digitally stitched into the final piece of artwork that will be permanently affixed to the Brightview Senior Living west’s end building facade in Rockville Town Square.
Bela’s artwork (“e blanc” and “u vert” Voyelles Series 1) will also be part of the exhibition at the VisArts Concourse Gallery from September 7th to 18th, 2016.
